[Video] Why District Assessment Coordinators use Goosechase

K-12 Educators Aug 3, 2022

Jessie Erickson is a former Curriculum Technology Facilitator, now District Assessment Coordinator for Grand Forks Public Schools and a Goosechase EDU Ambassador. Watch the video to find out how Jessie uses Goosechase for community building, social emotional learning (SEL) and remote learning.

Goosechase: How would you describe Goosechase in 3 words?

Jessie Erickson: Motivating, engaging and elevating. The reason I would choose those three words is that Goosechase is motivating for learners, engaging for learners, and can elevate your lesson and your students’ understanding of content.

GC: What is one tip about Goosechase you would give to another educator?

JE: Start with your end in mind! What is the goal for your lesson, how do you want to differentiate for your learners, and how do you want your students to show you what they know, can do and understand? Then create your Missions with that end in mind. Leading your students to mastery of content.

GC: What are some of your favorite Missions?

JE: Some of my students and co-teachers favorite Missions have been the Missions that we completed during covid. A lot of those Missions were centered on community building, supporting each other as a family, and also centered on social emotional learning (SEL), so finding joy in day-to-day events, bringing joy to others by completing tasks that would help around the house or support their families. Those Missions seem to have had the most impact. I got the most feedback from the games that I created specifically for other teachers to use and copy during Covid remote learning.

GC: How is your class different since starting to run Goosechase?

JE: Students really do have a deeper understanding of the content and can show you what they know and understand in a clear manner by completing Goosechase Missions. When you're planning your lesson, think about what those learner outcomes are and make sure your Missions lead you to that understanding of your students’ understanding and what they can do using the new knowledge.
