Can ChatGPT create interactive experiences?

Mission Ideas Dec 21, 2022

It’s the year 2500. What do you picture?
Flying cars, colonies on mars, phones that never run out of batteries?

If you’ve been following all the buzz around ChatGPT the past few weeks, you’re probably thinking something along the lines of robot overlords!

What is ChatGPT and Generative AI?

Released in November by OpenAI, ChatGPT is an AI chatbot designed to generate human-like responses to any questions or input. It uses a form of Artificial Intelligence called generative AI where the AI creates new, novel content, rather than just analyzing existing data. Messaging ChatGPT is a similar experience to messaging a colleague on Slack or Teams, it builds on your previous questions and is actually able to carry on conversations. Just like a human!

What can ChatGPT be used for?

A large part of the excitement around ChatGPT’s launch was discovering all the ways it can be used. People have been sharing examples of how they use it to improve processes, save time, share knowledge, and automate EVERYTHING!

Here are just some of the things people have done with the app so far:

  • Automate customer service responses
  • Write full college essays
  • Help debug code
  • Translate text
  • Decorate their homes
  • Come up with recipes
  • Respond to Tinder messages

Can AI build a Goosechase Experience?

The Goosechase flock is full of self-admitted innovation geeks! We love tech, sure, but more than that we love innovation, the art of the possible, and the future of human connection. So we were excited to try ChatGPT and see how it could help Goosechase creators. After all, if you can use it to find love on Tinder or decorate your home, surely ChatGPT can help a Goosechase creator come up with new Mission ideas? Let’s see…

For the inaugural experiment, we decided to go a little easy on our new robot BFF. Out of all the different types of interactive experiences you can build with Goosechase, we limited our questions to the well-known scavenger hunt format.

First up, scavenger hunt Missions for an AP Geography class. And make’em funny!

Goosechase asks: Write 5 different types of missions in a scavenger hunt for high school students focused on learning AP Geography. Attribute points to each mission, between 100 and 300, and add bonus points to 3 of them. Make these missions fun and informative. ChatGPT responds with 5 Missions. 1. Map Quest for 200 points. 2 Capital Knowledge for 250 points. 3. Glove Trotter for 300 points. 4. Geography Gags for 200 points. 5. Global Connections for 300 points. Four of the missions have bonus points attached. And they all read as if a human wrote them.

A robot came up with those Missions.

In seconds.

I have chills.

Think of how easy it could be to create a huge bank of audience or goal specific Missions!

Let’s try another one.

This time, let’s see what our little AI buddy suggests as fun Missions for onboarding new staff members.

Goosechase asks: Write 5 different types of missions in a scavenger hunt for onboarding new staff members. Attribute points to each mission, between 100 and 300, and add bonus points to 3 of them. Make these missions fun and informative. ChatGPT responds with 7 scavenger hunt missions. All with points assigned. Three with bonus points included. Missions are fun and read like they are written by a human.

Ok.

Good, but not great.

Definite room for improvement here, but there’s potential.

When you’re stuck or feeling that creative burnout, would it be helpful to have a little robot pal get you started by generating new Mission ideas that you can build on?

Sometimes all you need when facing creative burnout is a little bit of a running start. ChatGPT and generative AI has the potential to be that for Goosechase creators.

AI and the future of Goosechase

The exciting thing about apps like ChatGPT isn’t that they replace humans. Based on the above examples, it’s clear that you, our human Goosechase creators, are more creative, funnier!, and better positioned to come up with Missions to make your Experiences memorable for your audience. But AI has advanced enough now where it can help with creativity, and I think that is pretty powerful.

We know generating new and fresh Mission ideas gets hard. It’s a challenge we are tackling across the business, and you’ll see some pretty cool new tools released this year to help. As tools like ChatGPT enter the market, we will commit to testing them out and always asking: can this help Goosechase creators? If the answer is yes, we’ll dive in, wings first!.

We’re still a long way away from the year 2500, but as we head into the year 2023, the future is looking pretty exciting!
