The Definitive Guide to the Goose Emoji
Honk and ye shall receive...we're finally getting a goose emoji.
After months of internal speculation on Slack (we went wild over this proposal) and waxing poetic in our email newsletter (evidenced below), it's happening. We're getting a goose!
A goose emoji is part of the Emoji 15.0 update slated to roll out in late 2022 or early 2023. We're sweating.
In eager anticipation, we've put together the internet's first and only (unofficial) official guide to the goose emoji: a list of anything and everything the new emoji might stand for.
Silly Goose
Definition: A funny, silly person. A classic use case for the new emoji.
Application: You're such a 🪿!
Take a gander
Definition: To take a look; to check or examine.
Application: Hey can you 🪿 at the restaurant options I sent you?
Goosechase
Definition: A perfect use case for the new emoji. No notes. (New here? Here's a little about us.)
Application: Hey have you signed up to join the charity 🪿? Want to team up?
Ryan Gosling
Definition: Canadian actor prominent in independent film and blockbuster films of varying genres. He has received various accolades, including a Golden Globe Award, and nominations for two Academy Awards and a BAFTA Award.
Application: New 🪿 movie is getting a lot of Oscars buzz!

Wild goose chase
Definition: A foolish and hopeless search for or pursuit of something unattainable.
Application: I've been on a 🪿 for concert tickets that don't cost an arm and a leg!
Mother Goose
Definition: The figure of Mother Goose is the imaginary author of a collection of French fairy tales and later of English nursery rhymes. The term's appearance in English dates back to the early 18th century.
Application: Read the kids something by 🪿. That always calms them down.
Goose egg
Definition: A zero score in a game.
Application: I can't risk a 🪿 on Friday's game, so you're out, pal!
Honk
Definition: A honk is a noise made by a goose or a car horn. A goose's honk can be a greeting or warning, which is also true of a car horn's honk.
Application: Hey, was that you who 🪿 at me outside the Starbucks? I thought I recognized your car!
Untitled Goose Game
Definition: Untitled Goose Game is a 2019 puzzle stealth video game developed by House House and published by Panic Inc. Players control a goose who bothers the inhabitants of an English village. The player must use the goose's abilities to manipulate objects and non-player characters to complete objectives.
Application: I was up for hours last night playing 🪿

Down
Definition: There are a few dimensions to this one:
- The down of birds is a layer of fine feathers found under tougher exterior feathers. Down is a fine thermal insulator and padding used in goods such as jackets (see Canada Goose below), bedding, and pillows. Don't LOVE talking about this one.
- Down can also refer to the verb meaning toward or in a lower physical position.
- In slang, "down" can also mean to be keen for something or to have something down pat/perfected (illustrated in example below).
Application: Are you 🪿 to 🤡?
Your goose is cooked
Definition: Yet another we don't like to speak of. This idiom is used to address someone about to suffer consequences; it may imply retaliation for offensive behavior.
Application: You forgot your homework again??? 🪿...
Canada Goose
Definition: Being a fellow Canadian company, we're all for it. Canada Goose produces winter clothing for all ages.
Application: It's gonna be really cold, like sub-zero. Definitely bring your 🪿 jacket.
Loosey-goosey
Definition: Imprecise, disorganized, or excessively relaxed.
Application: Let's keep dinner plans 🪿 in case we are craving different things.
Goose
Definition: A bird of any of several waterfowl species in the family Anatidae. The emoji as intended.
Application: Have you seen the 🪿 emoji? It's my new favorite.
